Our Full Ingredients List
Coconut Oil (Cocous Nucifera)
Yep, the same superfood ingredient you love in your favourite ice-cream and smoothies does some pretty heavy lifting in our deodorants too. Coconut oil comes from coconuts (Cocos nucifera). Its delicious white pulp is extracted and refined into oil that is easily absorbed into the skin and is super hydrating and nourishing. It’s antibacterial too, so it's amazing at fighting the bacteria that causes underarms to smell when you sweat.
Tapioca Starch
Wildhood deodorant uses Tapioca Starch instead of baking soda that you find in most deodorants. Extracted from the fleshy root of the cassava plant grown in South America and Indonesia, it is our hero ingredient for absorbing and minimising wetness without stopping your natural sweating process. Oh, and it makes Wildhood feel silky and smooth on your skin too (your pits will love it!)
Magnesium Hydroxide
Magnesium hydroxide comes from the sea. This salty, alkaline formula combines magnesium hydroxide and magnesium carbonate hydroxide to create a pH environment on the skin that odour-causing bacteria hates! Unlike naughty aluminium-filled deodorants, it naturally prevents odour without blocking sweat glands and disrupting the body's natural cooling mechanism.
Candelilla Wax
Candelila wax is derived from the leaves of a shrub native to Mexico and gives our deodorant its soft, yet firm consistency, and ensures it glides on smoothly.
Castor Seed Oil (Ricinus Communis)
Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant. This naturally sourced antibacterial oil is rich in fatty acids and helps give our deodorant its smooth, creamy texture.
Sweet Almond Oil
Almond oil is extracted from crushed almonds and is known for its gentle, soothing, and moisturising properties. The oils in Wildhood deodorant add to its creamy texture, and help carry other ingredients to your skin.
Shea Butter
Shea Butter is natural vegetable fat extracted from the seeds of the African shea tree. Naturally abundant in vitamins A and E and fatty acids, it’s super hydrating, anti inflammatory, and a rich source of antioxidants.
Carnauba Wax
Carnauba Wax comes from the leaves of the palm Copernicia Prunifera, a plant found in northeastern Brazil. It is hypoallergenic, very emollient and has a high melting point, making it perfect for thickening skin care products. It is also why our deodorants provide a smooth application and lovely glossy finish.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is nature’s own preservative. Ours comes from tocopherol which is made by drying out oil seeds, which are then ground, milled, boiled, and separated. It acts as an antioxidant in our deodorants and contains magical skin conditioning properties.
Kaolin
Kaolin clay is a gentle clay found all over the world. It’s also super milky, so it’s beneficial if you have dry or sensitive skin. We add a touch to our deodorant formulations to help absorb sweat, and soothe the skin.
Fragrance
Our scents are nature-inspired, fun and fabulous and one of the reasons you can't wait to put them on every morning. Fragrance sometimes gets a bad rap, which is why ours come from Australian suppliers who follow the IFRA code of practice, which is the global standard for safe use of fragrance ingredients and mixtures. Some people can be a little sensitive to fragrances (think: itch, sting, scratch). We recommend doing a patch test first to make sure your skin loves Wildhood just as much as you do.
Alcohol
Alcohol does not form the base of
our Body Mist formula (water does), but it does help lift and delicately distribute the fragrance notes, and act as a preservative.
Alcohol can be drying on the skin, which is why we’ve added plenty of
hydrating and moisturising ingredients… to counteract this.
Aqua
Aqua (Water) forms the base of our bodymists, and is what makes them lighter and more refreshing than alcohol-based perfumes. The addition of water also lessons the drying effects of alcohol on the skin.
Coumarin
Our Imagine body mist has an added touch of coumarin, for an extra hint of vanilla bean. Our
coumarin is sourced from the tonka bean plant
Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract
Cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract is packed full of minerals and vitamins to soothe and soften skin and provide a cooling effect.
Glycerin
The glycerin in our body mists
functions as a humectant, luring moisture to the skin. A powerhouse
moisturiser, glycerine helps to moisturise and hydrate skin, and combat any dryness and irritation. Glycerin shines particularly bright when applied to moist skin.
Lactic Acid
Lactic acid is a super subtle type
of alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). Like all AHAs, lactic acid skincare is a chemical exfoliant that delicately refreshes and revives dull skin. Thanks to its bigger molecule size than other AHA’s, it also works as a humectant (moisture retainer) and helps to increase natural moisturising factors within the skin.
Sodium Anisate
Sodium Anisate is a natural
preservative obtained from anise and fennel. It is a gentle preservative which keeps our body mist fresh and expands its lifespan.
Sodium Hyaluronate
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of the skin-replenishing ingredient hyaluronic acid (HA). Like HA, It has a remarkable ability to help skin retain lots of moisture. Sodium hyaluronate has smaller molecules than hyaluronic acid, which allows it to penetrate the top layer of the skin and improve hydration from the underlying skin layers.
Sodium Levulinate
Sodium levulinate comes from the
salt of levulinic acid. It acts as a
preservative and help the skin stay smooth and soft.
The nasty stuff we never use
Aluminium
Aluminium is the ingredient in antiperspirants that actually clogs your pores and prevents sweating. The internet has various stories linking aluminium to Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, and kidney function. Although the correlation (if any) is not yet known, is it worth taking the risk when there are aluminium-free options available?
Bi Carb
Lots of natural deodorants use Sodium Bi-Carbonate as a pH neutraliser. However bi-carb can be harsh, irritating and aggravating sensitive skin. We prefer to save the bi carb for our chocolate cakes, and use magnesium hydroxide for its detoxifying qualities in our deos instead.
Parabens
Parabens are synthetic compounds that are used as a preservative to control bacteria, however these could disrupt the balance of our hormones. We use coconut oil and castor oil instead for their natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties.
Propylene Glycol
Propylene glycol is a synthetic compound used to soften deodorant and make it easy to apply. It’s also the same ingredient that is used to de-ice aircraft in cold conditions…. No thank you. We use tapioca starch and candelilla wax instead.
Triclosan
Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent considered a pesticide by the American Food & Drug Administration. Wildhood deodorant contains only natural preservatives, including vitamin E.
Phthalates
Phthalates are used to make other ingredients more flexible, however they are also linked to disruptions of the endocrine system. We’ll take our lovely shea butter and carnuba wax instead thanks.
Palm Oil
Palm oil-derived products appear in lots of food and cosmetic products and pose devastating environmental problems. It's the largest driver of Indonesian deforestation, which destroys habitat and contributes to climate change. It’s the reason our formulations are derived from coconut oil, never palm oil.
